Today SoundForest.org partnered with Hands on Nashville to plant 26 Fruit trees (plum, peach, pear, cherry, apple, and fig), 24 shade trees (bur oak, red oak, red maple, walnut), at 14 homes, with 12 volunteers, in 4 hours.
Trees were planted in the East Nashville Neighborhood. The newly planted trees were strategically planted on the west side of the homes to help provide shade from the setting sun. AC units operate 10% more efficiently when shaded from direct sunlight. These trees will eventually grow to shade the home as well as the AC unit and have potential to reduce AC bills by 40% to 50% when they are mature!
We also planted fruit trees at the homes which will provide food on site for homeowners and neighbors. Zero transportation cost for food. These homes were planted on some of the best farmland so why not utilize the great soil and grow some plums and pears and good juicy fruit!!! Neat.
Good times. Thanks to all of the volunteers and to Hands on Nashville. Great job Samantha! Cheers for to everyone for their help.
