Today SoundForest InfanTREE volunteers planted 700 trees along a tributary to Mill Creek. This section of waterway runs through the Glen Leven Estate which is now managed by the Land Trust for Tennessee. The riparian buffer restoration project will greatly improve water quality by providing proper vegetation to shade, filter out pollutants, and stabilize the creek from erosion. The upland slopes on either side of the creek is used for cattle farming to the West and I-65 boarders the East. Currently there is a tremendous amount of polluted runoff that deposits directly into the Mill Creek Tributary. Our trees will help filter out these pollutants prior to entering the waterway. It is our goal to improve the quality of water allowing for better wildlife habitat including the endangered Nashville Crayfish.
SoundForest.org partnered with Land Trust of Tennessee, The Dept. of Forestry, and Students Today Leaders Forever to help make this project a success. We will be planting again at this location on February 10th if you'd like to join in the fun! Sign up now.
Huge thanks to STLF volunteers from Wisconsin for their hard work. Also special thanks to SoundForest project managers Chris Sweeney and Ian Lincoln along with LTFT Parker Hawkins, Doug Rodman, Caitlin Mello, and Audra Ladd for their leadership.
