We now have 18 fruit trees in the BHN SoundForest - SoundOrchard including Arkansas Black, Winesap, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious Apples and Blue Damson and Santa Rosa Plum. We're hoping to raise some funds to plant Pear and Peach trees soon! When these trees are in top production they can produce between 150 to 200lbs of fruit each year. 30 trees have the potential to produce 45,000 lbs of food in a 10 year span!
We also planted 3 fruiting Bartlett Pear at the corner of Magnolia and 18th. We were able to remove the Crepe Myrtle that was damaged by incorrect pruning. As it was topped it made a bad impression as a focal point located at the neighborhood entrance.
The mulch looks great and will benefit the trees in many ways. This will help retain moisture during the hot summer days and will defuse the rainwater from compacting the soil. This also provides a buffer between the mowers and the trees. The London Plane Trees, Tulip Poplar, Cucumber Magnolia, and other Magnolia trees are in great shape!
